Alyx Beckwith
PHD, LCMHC-S
Alyx (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor with over fourteen years of counseling experience with children, adolescents, and adults. Alyx also has her certification in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International (PSI). She works with a variety of presenting concerns, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, the parenting journey, and navigating transitions across the lifespan.
With a commitment to practicing counseling with cultural humility; a deep respect for diversity of identities, lifestyles, and lived experiences; and a passion for social justice advocacy, Alyx believes that a trusting counseling relationship is the most important component of effective therapy. It is her intention to earn this trust from each of her clients. As a mom of two, she brings empathy, compassion, acceptance, and a non-judgmental attitude to her work with mothers.
It takes a lot of courage to start counseling and Alyx strives to create a brave space for clients to address the concerns that bring them in and to meet the goals they have for the experience.
Using a person-centered and strengths-based perspective, Alyx incorporates techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness interventions. Additionally, she has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and tries to continuously learn more about trauma treatment approaches, so that she can effectively address trauma’s impact on emotional health, sense of self, and relationship satisfaction. In addition to her work with clients, Alyx also teaches clinical mental health counseling as an adjunct professor at North Carolina Central University.
